Presbyterian minister and secessionist. A native of Ireland, William Henry Mitchell studied law and theology at Belfast College. He immigrated to the U.S. between 1840 and 1843 and in 1843 Dec. he was installed as the Presbyterian minister at Wetumpka, Ala. He served the church in Florence, Ala. from 1850-1871 and was president of the Florence Synodical Female College from 1858-1872.
